Report of our Special Fundraising

Wednesday, 03 November 2010

Dear Friends & Supporters:

We are happy to report that our major project of tiling of one of the yards at the shelter (1200 sq meters)  which was delayed due to lack of funds/resources, is almost half way done!

Unfortunately due to the amount raised for our special fund-raising, we were only able to start the most needed project which is the living situation for our dear residents at Vafa.  The amount needed for this project has been estimated at $8000.  Thanks to your kind/generous donations, we were able to raise $4030 via Paypal and another $470 via the bank account in Iran.  We made sure to send a thank you note to each and every supporter who helped us in this cause.

(Please forgive me if you were missed and kindly email me offline ..kfravon@yahoo.com)

There is much more to do … and we hope you continue your support–when you are able to…

Other items in the wish list that was donated to Vafa are listed here:

Shade Canopies, Card boards, Rugs, Blankets, Tiles, Cleaning detergents, Gloves, Dishes for dogs, Ethanol alcohol, betadine, comforters, Mattresses (for the workers), wooden bench, more dishes, pillows, ropes for dog toys, shampoo for dogs, garbage bins…and more…

THANK YOU ALL!  ‘Together’ we can make a difference….

Dear friends,

In the last few months, Vafa has faced many challenges which got resolved with your help.

Below, we mention some of them:

We are grateful of your support. For some years, a water spring in the village of Kooshkezar was the water source for the shelter. Water was stored in a pool and then moved to the shelter by pipes. Since last year due to scarce rainfall, the spring started to dry up, until about eight months ago that it dried up completely and the shelter was left without water. Fortunately, there is a well nearby that had not been used for a long time. After consulting with some experts we decided to get it ready and utilized. To start with, as a temporary solution we purchased and installed two 6000 liter tanks. For a month, we bought and delivered water to these tanks by trucks. In the meanwhile, after purchase of a motorized pump and electric generator, plumbing and other preparations the well became usable. This would not have happened without your help.

Your help also has made it possible for us to hire a second full time cleaning person. At present time the shelter employees two full time attendants and a driver/services person. Therefore, with your help not only the shelter is a cleaner place, three families live better lifes. A new Peykan van was gifted to the shelter by it’s founder, Mrs. Motamedi. This van and your donations gave us the chance to spend time and money in to repairing the old van. Again, none of this would have happened without your help. With your help, dozens of dogs received medical treatments and vaccinations, were spay and neutered, and got fed. These are only examples of a long list. As a group, with a common goal we can do a lot more. Expect more good news…

Volunteers needed for young puppies

Monday, 13 September 2010

The puppies that are in the Vafa shelter have been found in the streets or alleys, inside trash bins, or are brought by various people to the shelter. Many of those puppies were found abandoned inside rice sacks at the shelter’s gate.
Sometimes dogs in danger of being killed were brought here with their puppies. Other times, dogs that were ready to give birth have been brought to us, or have come to us of their own accord.

Some of these puppies are without a parent and need extra attention. These animals are too young and fragile to be kept in the shelter. We are very much in need of volunteers that are willing to offer a loving home even on a temporary basis until the puppies are old enough to bring to the shelter or to offer for adoption.

Right now we are looking for a loving (temporary) home for the following animals:

1)  need foster homes for puppies between 2 weeks old to 3 months old—while we take care of their vaccinations before they are moved to the shelter

2)  temporary homes (about 1-2 weeks only) for dogs/puppies who find forever homes outside Iran, and just need house-trained a little before being sent off.

If you live in Iran or you think you can help in any other way please contact the shelter: info@cal.ir or contact Mr.  Ali Saani: 0912 – 550-4590 (mobile) or Mrs. Neda Mahmoodi: 0919-540-0830 (mobile)

Thank you,

Vafa Shelter

Report from Vafa Shelter – Mashhad  (Dated July 19, 2010)

At request of Ms Emami, on 25th of Tir Dr. Abedi and Ms EsnaAshari went for a visit to Vafa Shelter in Mashhad. Within only two days, 43 female dogs were spayed. These were not only dogs who reside at the shelter but also those who roam the surrounding lands and enjoy the fringe benefits of the kind neighbors. Since last year, the shelter has been improved in many ways. To mention some; now they have electricity, water pumps, shades, and large pool for the dogs to play in and cool down. Drinking water canals have been built. They have purchased a pickup truck, and a water tanker to reserve water for drinking and cooking the dogs foods on the days of shortage.

As of today, there are about 70 healthy dogs who live together in peace. Many thanks to Mrs Forough Emami and Mr Abachi who has joined Ms Emami since last month.  This shelter will be able to stand on its feet with help of animal supporters, both financially and physically.

For more information and to offer your help, please contact Ms Emami by calling her at: 0936-226-4999 or 0915-502-2694 and/or email:nasemshahidi@yahoo.com You can always contact us at info@cal.ir and please refer to Vafa-Mashhad if you are inquiring about this location.
