At the end of May 2023, a little dog with a rope around her neck ran desperately after Mr. Karam’s car down the road, chasing hope, chasing a new life.
When she finally reached the shelter, she was overwhelmed by a sea of barking dogs. Terrified, she took refuge beside the car, her heart pounding.
How had her life come to this? What would happen to her now? Would the bigger dogs hurt her? Would she be thrown out again? If they didn’t want her… why had they bought her at all?
Farzad picked her up gently and said, “This little one longs for human companionship. Please, don’t buy and abandon animals. If you want a loyal friend, adopt from a shelter.”
Thousands of miles away, in Toronto, Canada, Amir and his wife heard this heartfelt message and decided to open their home and hearts to her.
Lola, known as “Ropey” at the shelter, finally found her way to them. After months of searching for a flight volunteer, she arrived in Toronto on April 16, 2025.
Thank you to our wonderful traveler, Nika, and the incredible volunteers at Vafa Shelter — Farah Azari, Mahtab Eshghi, and Majid Houshmand — for preparing Lola’s journey and seeing her off at the airport.
Welcome home, sweet Lola. 💛
