The story of Setareh has a sad beginning, but if you bear it, it will have a happy ending.

Setareh was a puppy mill victim and was brought to the shelter by a family. It was their neighbor’s dog. So, one day, seeing the dog in the street, they inform the neighbor that their dog is wandering outside. The neighbor replied that they let her go and didn’t want her anymore.

It was around this time last year that she came to the shelter. We named her Setareh (meaning Star). She was timid and shy. When we posted her story, Alisa, who, along with her sister, has been supporting our dogs for several years, expressed her desire to adopt her. However, there was a small problem, Alisa was a resident of Shiraz, and we usually don’t allow the adoption of family members we have not vetted. We usually have to interview families in person and see the home where the dog is going to go unless there are exceptional cases in which we know and trust the adopter. Thankfully this was one of those cases. So, we had a detailed telephone interview with Alisa and her husband. Alisa is a physician, and she had a dog in her father’s house and knew how to keep and treat a dog.

On January 31, 2023, Ms. Neda Mahmoudi, one of Vafa’s old friends, who was going to Shiraz, took Setareh along with her to deliver it to her new family. They had to decide on going through with the adoption within ten days until Ms. Mahmoudi was set to return to Tehran.

The choice was an easy one and this young couple loves her and regularly sends us videos and photos. This video shows her going to the city of Bushehr for Nowruz (new years) where she had lots of fun.
