Almaas (meaning Diamond in Farsi)
Ms. Almaas was found in the Almaas shopping mall on Artesh Boulevard. Every day, as soon as the mall’s door opened she was always the first to enter. It was obvious from her belly and nipples that Almaas is a nursing mom. A few times the mall’s staff tried to take her to a faraway place, but every time she managed to return. Once she even was released in the outskirts of Lavasan (a suburb of Tehran), but a kind lady thinking that Almaas’ puppies are still hidden somewhere in the mall, went to look for her. The lady took Almaas back to the mall hoping that she will lead her to the puppies. Disappointed and sad that she could not find them, she put Almaas in her car to head home. Little did she know that the puppies were not in the mall, but still in Almaas’ belly. How did she know? She realized this when Almaas decided to give birth in the car. The first pup was stillborn and it looked as though the labor was going to be complicated. As a result they ended up at a pet hospital and C-section was done on Almaas to save her other seven puppies. After birth, they all went to the lady’s home. Almaas was so sick after giving birth that she could have died, and thankfully, the kind lady saved her life. To make a long story short, due to neighbors complaints to the police and family problems, Almaas and her puppies eventually ended up at Vafa Shelter.
Five years now have passed. Ms. Almaas is doing well at the shelter. The puppies are all grown up, a few have been adopted and few still live at the shelter.
