World Veterinary Day
SELECTED THEME 2016:
“CONTINUING EDUCATION WITH A ONE HEALTH FOCUS”

Most of us are not familiar with the history of veterinary in Iran. World Veterinary Day gives us a good excuse to take a look at that history.
The oldest substantial documents reflecting official and professional health care for domesticated animals in Persia go back to around 200AD. – during the Sassanian Reign. Rural and civic use of animals for cultivation, transportation, and army purposes were extremely popular. Surgeons and medical staff were constantly trained and organized to deal with such demand. The most modern administration of such routine care was officially announced by establishment of the first veterinary school in 1932 in Persia. (The name Persia was later changed to Iran in 1935 by the official request of the Iranian Parliament in the United Nations meeting).

In year 2000, last Saturday of month of April was designated as World Veterinary Day. This year, it will be observed on April 30th, focusing on continuing education with “One Health” for public, animals and the environment. Designating one day to acknowledge the service that the veterinarians provide for us is the least we can do. We would like to congratulate this day to all veterinarians who spend their valuable time serving animals, specially to many in the past and present of Vafa; Dr. Abedi, Dr. Moaveni, Dr. Ghazi, Dr. Shahiri, Dr. Tabaii, and their staff and associated clinics.
We wish a great day for all the doctors, clinical workers and pharmacists who help to lessen the pain and suffering of the animals.
